I've seen a lot of opposition to that idea on this board, but a recent article by Christine Vestal of Pew's Stateline, appearing in Huffpost Healthy Living states that there is a bipartisan bill in Congress -the Recovery Enhancement for Addiction Treatment or TREAT Act- that would allow midlevels to prescribe buprenorphine for addiction treatment. The article goes on to state that, regarding the "license" to treat addiction using buprenorphine: "So far, fewer than 32,000 doctors have received the license and the vast majority who have one seldom, if ever, use it.
