Yes, use of the mono product declined when heroin became more available. Those who prefer the mono product are the ones who want to feel normal and break the habit. Those who prefer heroin still haven't learned their lesson and are still looking for escape from reality. It should also be pointed out that the naloxone-containing bup products can be abused as well as the mono product. It is much easier to get an overdose with heroin or methadone than with bup, which requires mixing with at least one other depressant drug to kill. It seems to me that bup in either the mono or naloxone-containing form is a better choice for most people. Splitting hairs between these two choices doesn't mean much, except when one choice is so much cheaper that it can mean the difference between a good choice and death.
