Well, due to hormonal waves, pregnant women tend to have sometimes trouble estimating their needs; maybe you could provide early refills, but not as often as the person asks, so htat she learns she has to "ration" her allowance instead of taking it all in a couple days?

early refill policy, pregancy

my policy generally is not to provide early refills but i have always made an exception for pregnant women out of the belief that these patients are at risk for bad outcomes if they experience withdrawal. this unfortunately puts me over the barrel with these patients. i have one patient in particular who has requested 6 early refills over the course of her pregnancy. she acknowledges that she overuses her medicine when stressed.
it there an alternative to a permissive approach?
